Xabi Alonso testifies before the judge for alleged tax fraud in 2013 and 2014

Xabi Alonso goes to court.

The ex-footballer Xabi Alonso has declared this Monday before the Madrid judge who is investigating him for the complaint filed by the Prosecutor’s Office against him for alleged tax fraud committed in 2013 and 2014, tax sources have informed Efe.

In addition to Alonso, the athlete’s tax advisor has declared before the judge Ivan Zaldúa and Ignasi Maestre, administrator of a company based in Madeira to which the athlete transferred his image rights.

The three are investigated in court number 52 in Madrid for alleged tax crimes for avoiding the payment of 840,017 euros in the 2014 financial year and 572,008 euros the previous year.

Alonso was tried and acquitted of similar charges relating to the years 2010 to 2012, has already been cited for the 2013 fraud charge and declined to testify.

He is the only one in a long list of footballers who has always refused to reach an agreement with the Prosecutor’s Office in defense of his innocence. Today, in statements to journalists at the courthouse doors, he pointed out that in this case he will follow the same strategy.
