Tottenham’s hit in the Europa League

The big surprise of the knockout round of the Europa League has been the cross between Tottenham de Mourinho and Dinamo Zagreb. The English prevailed with sufficiency 2-0 in London and traveled to Croatia on Thursday with their minds set on Friday’s draw. But in a vibrant match, Dinamo managed to turn the tie around (3-0) and expel Mourinho’s men from European competitions. The Portuguese lined up heavyweights like Kane, Lucas Moura or Dele Alli, and took Bale out in the second half, but none of them showed the level of the first leg. The coach left with a dark face, once again out of Europe and with the team eighth in the Premier, six points behind the Champions League positions.

Mislav Orsic was the hero of the Croats scoring the three goals of the match, each one more beautiful. The first was with a shot from the corner of the area that slipped through the long squad after an impossible parable for Lloris. The second came in 83rd, to force extra time, taking advantage of the fact that Davison Sánchez was paralyzed to finish off a death pass from the penalty spot. The last and decisive one was scored in overtime, after receiving the ball on the wing and dribbling past three defenders to finish with a shot adjusted to the strain of the post.

Tottenham, who were playing in the Champions League final two seasons ago, had plenty of opportunities to save the tie, but the Croats showed that in Europe you cannot go by halves. Kane was about to avoid extra time at the last minute, but the Zagreb center-back was providential to get the ball out on the line. The English striker, who had scored both goals in the first leg, did not have his night despite the fact that he pulled his team when they could not get out of the pressure. Tottenham only has the final of the EFL Cup to save the season, which will play against Guardiola’s Manchester City on April 25.
