La Cartuja Stadium, in Seville.

The final of the Copa del Rey 2019-2020 that Athletic Club and Real Sociedad must play on April 3 will finally be played behind closed doors and without an audience, given the pandemic situation due to the covid, as confirmed this Thursday by Real Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). The body, which is due to meet with the two clubs this Thursday, indicated in a statement that the current epidemic situation and the established measures that entail the perimeter closure of mobility, both for the autonomous community of Andalusia, as well as for the province of Seville, They make it unfeasible for fans not residing in the province to attend this meeting.

“Both clubs have been informed of all this, and they have communicated that they would abide by any decision of the RFEF. The fact that the fans cannot travel and go to the Cartuja stadium has been especially valued, the Ministry of Health and Families of the Junta de Andalucía and the Royal Spanish Football Federation agreeing that said match takes place without the assistance of audience in the stands of the La Cartuja stadium ”, added the RFEF.

This federative decision comes after the Spanish Government, through Carolina Darias, Minister of Health, pointed out this Wednesday that it did not see “adequate, timely and convenient” public attendance at this final of the Copa del Rey soccer by the agreement to practice perimeter closures, limitation of mobility and social contacts, during the festivities of San José and Holy Week, and the non-celebration of “massive events that involve crowding of people”.

In the statement issued by the RFEF, the organization explains that in the different meetings with the Andalusian Ministry of Health, the health care situation and current epidemiological data in Seville were analyzed; the health administration communicated “that holding said meeting with an influx of public would imply the classification of moderate epidemic risk by covid-19, which allowed the attendance of a limited capacity”. Although, and after the celebration of said final was postponed last year with the aim of “aspiring for the final to be held with the assistance of both hobbies”, the current epidemiological situation and also the restrictions on the mobility between communities, which makes it unfeasible for fans not residing in the province to attend this meeting.
