Doncic and Tatum fight for a ball in the Clippers-Dallas game.

The Dallas Mavericks confirmed their dominance over the Clippers, defeated 121-127 and made it 0-2 in the first round of the playoffs. Luka Doncic dominated again and added 39 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. The 22-year-old guard from Slovenia thus brings his team closer to the goal of turning around what happened last season, when the Clippers eliminated the Mavericks 4-2 in the first round.

The Clippers focused their defense on Doncic, but the Mavericks overcame it by moving the ball successfully and with good percentages on field shots (58%) and 3-pointers, with 18 hits on 34 shots (53%). The dominance of the Texan team could have been even greater because they were not successful from the free throw line, with a poor 13 of 27, to which Doncic contributed with a poor 2 of 7.

The Mavericks attack benefited from the contributions of Hardaway, with 6 triples and 28 points and especially successful in the final minutes, and also that of Porzingis, with 20 points. Other players propped up the Maverickcs’ offense, Kleber with 13 points and Brunson and Richardson with 9 each.

The Clippers are now in a dangerous situation. He needs to come back from 0-2. They lost the second game despite the magnificent performance of their leader, Kawhi Leonard, with 41 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Paul George made only one of the seven triples he threw, and finished with 28 points and 12 rebounds. But the Clippers’ attack missed the contribution of other players. Serge Ibaka only played 6 minutes and scored 2 points.

The Lakers tied the tie against Phoenix at one by winning the second game 102-109. Anthony Davis recovered from his weak performance in the first game and was the offensive benchmark for the Californian team with 34 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. The German guard Schroder was very active in attack and added 24 points and LeBron James added 23 points, 4 rebounds and 9 assists. The Lakers’ inside game improved. Frank Vogel, their coach, varied the strategy, did not use Harrell and brought in Marc Gasol, who had not played in the first game. The Spanish pivot added 6 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists in the 20 minutes he played. Andre Drummond, the starting center, had 15 points and 12 rebounds. Ayton’s reply, with 22 points and 10 rebounds, Booker, with 31 points, and Payne, with 19, was insufficient.
