Süper Lig: Besiktas wins the heartbeat final against Galatasaray and Fenerbahce and is champions

Besiktas Istanbul is Turkish champion. The team of coach Sergen Yalcin prevailed on the last match day of the Süper Lig against Göztepe with 2: 1 (1: 1) and held their own against Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.

All three capital city clubs could have won the championship title on this 40th match day. In the meantime, it looked like Galatasaray could still take the title on the home stretch. Besiktas threatened a draw against Göztepe.

Rachid Ghezzal scored the decisive goal with a penalty in the 69th minute.

Galatasaray won their game against Yeni Malatyaspor after falling 3-1. The third title candidate Fenerbahce won their last game of the season with two late goals without the injured ex-international Mesut Özil 2-1 (0-1) at Kayserispor.

Due to the better goal difference, Besiktas are champions with one goal ahead of Gala – for the 16th time in the club’s history.
