Chelsea and Manchester City are apparently withdrawing from the Super League after just two days. Several English media report this unanimously. SPOX and goal can confirm this. Both clubs are among the twelve founding members of the exclusive league, which had met with great resistance from fans and league competitors.
FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid should also withdraw from the original plans for an elite league.
On Monday, at least 1,000 angry fans protested against the planned Super League in front of the Chelsea Stadium. Despite their rivalries, the supporters of various clubs came together to the stadium at Stamford Bridge, where the blues around team manager Thomas Tuchel will meet Brighton & Hove Albion in the evening (9 p.m. in the live ticker).
Signs reading “Rest in Peace Football 1863-2021” and “Made by the poor, stolen from the rich” were on the signs held up by fans.
In addition to Chelsea, the Premier League clubs Liverpool FC, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal FC and Tottenham Hotspur are among the founding clubs.
