UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin strongly denounced the creation of the Super League.
The creation of the Super League, launched by twelve dissident clubs, does not cease to react. Meeting all morning on Monday, April 19, 2021 to validate the new formula of the Champions League from 2024, the UEFA executive committee reacted, through the voice of its president, Aleksander Ceferin. And he didn’t mince his words.
This Super League is “a shameful proposition” of some clubs “guided by greed”, “a spit in the face of all football lovers”, responded Aleksander Ceferin.
The boss of the European football body reaffirmed that the players playing in the founding clubs of this private league “will be banned” international competitions such as the World Cup or the Euro and “will not be able to represent their national teams”.
The European body, which had announced its intention to fight against this new competition even before its officialization, thus joined the cohort of criticisms and rejections facing this project carried by some of the richest clubs in Europe. Heads of government or state, federations, Fifa, many of them disagree, including current or former players.
But the instigators of this Super League were prepared for certain threats, since they have already taken preventive action in the courts to challenge these possible sanctions against players or clubs.
