Serie A: club bosses call for “traitors” to resign

The planned Super League splits Serie A. Owner Urbano Cairo from FC Turin described Andrea Agnelli, President of Juventus Turin and until recently chairman of the European Club Association ECA, as a “traitor”.

He also called for the resignation of Inter Milan’s managing director Giuseppe Marotta from his post as a member of the association. “Agnelli and Marotta are Serie A traitors,” said Cairo.

AC Milan’s president Paolo Scaroni is also said to have been called on by representatives of several Serie A clubs to vacate his place on the league’s board of directors. The Italian media report.

Serie A does not have the legal means to exclude the representatives of Juventus as well as AC and Inter Milan. The three clubs are founding members of the Super League announced on Monday. There is a threat of a dispute in court. The Serie A club presidents want to discuss this in Milan next week.

The league fears that the Super League could cause TV broadcasting rights to lose 30 percent of their value. The streaming service DAZN, which has secured the transmission rights from 2021 to 2024, would also be affected.
