RB Leipzig has found a successor for Dayot Upamecano in the defense center. The table runner-up announced the signing of French defensive player Mohamed Simakan on Monday.
The 20-year-old will be coming from Ligue 1 for Racing Strasbourg this summer and will be awarded a five-year contract. Around 17 million euros are being discussed as a transfer for the French U20 international.
“Mohamed Simakan is a robust defender with good dynamics who can be used flexibly. He can play inside, half and full-back,” said sporting director Markus Krösche about the new signing, who has been out since mid-January due to an arthroscopic operation in his right knee .
Together with the previously signed Josko Gvardiol from Dinamo Zagreb, Simakan will replace Upamecano, who is moving to Bayern Munich.
