Quartararo repeats on pole at the French GP

Two weeks ago the Spanish GP race ended in a miracle. Without strength. There was no way to stop the bike to enter the curves. Fabio Quartararo had been leading the entire race for 14 wonderful laps, but he began to see his rivals overtake him mercilessly. He knew before anyone else that he would have to undergo surgery again. Compartment syndrome gripped him. That evil that affects the forearms of most motorcycle riders, who at some point or another assume that a surgical operation will relieve their pain. Although the French pilot had previously operated on the same ailment on the same arm – the fasciae that surround the muscles are very rigid and compress the area as a result of a series of high intensity repetitive efforts – he understood that he did not have any left another to go back to the hospital.

And he came back, the doctors opened those fasciae, freed the muscles of Quartararo’s right forearm, they closed again and Nice’s, also freed, arrived at Le Mans ready to enjoy the French GP, his career. And there, in the famous and popular 24-hour circuit, where it is difficult for him to enter every day as many people as they crowd at the gates of the enclosure to catch him in a selfie or get an autograph, went back to the pole position. Very fast, the young rider of the Yamaha team, 11 days after being intervened, was the fastest rider on the grid for another Saturday.

Le Mans is the third pole consecutive for Quartararo, who enlivened the session in the last seconds with a lap to the limit (1m 32.6s) when the counter was already at zero. Fast laps followed one another in the final bars of Q2, which was played on wet asphalt on which it was no longer raining. So the track, timidly the sun peeked out and the wind blew, was drying little by little, which allowed the fight against the clock to be a little easier each time. Or, at the very least, more profitable. That it was not easy to run at 300 km / h on a track that had dry areas, other wet areas and some dangerous water patches. Pol Espargaró gave a good account of one of them, who went to the ground in the last seconds and when he was stroking the first line of the grid.

He rolled Espargaró on the floor as Maverick Viñales rose from the catacombs to mark a lap in 1m 32.681s. Morbidelli and Zarco also improved, who in a pleats They brought Marc Márquez back to reality: the Honda man had placed first with three minutes to go, but he still had to endure the final shock from his rivals. And he finished, finally, sixth. A great position and a good time to have spent nine months offside. He knows he’s not up to the task yet. And also its rivals.

That is why they dare with everything. How dare Quartararo. With a final round in which he bet everything. “There were some patches of water. And I noticed that I needed to fine-tune something on the bike, worse I thought it was the last lap, so I was going all or nothing ”. And it went well. He snatched the pole from his teammate Viñales, second to only 81 thousandths. Third will be Jack Miller, winner of the last race in Jerez.
