Primera Division: Lionel Messi holds Barca with a brace in the title race

Thanks to a brace from Lionel Messi, FC Barcelona are among the leaders in the title three-way battle in the Spanish Primera Division. The Argentine scored his number 27 and 28 goals of the season in the 3-2 (0-0) away win against Valencia CF (the highlights in the video).

With four games to go, Barca are third with 74 points, just behind Atletico Madrid (76) and Real Madrid (74), who also recorded victories at the weekend. Next Saturday (4.15 p.m.) Barcelona and Atletico will face each other in a groundbreaking duel at Camp Nou.

In Valencia, Barcelona fell behind with national goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen initially through Gabriel Paulista (50th). Messi (57th) initially missed a penalty, but converted the margin. Antoine Griezmann (63rd) and again Messi (69th) ensured the win three days after the 2-1 defeat against Granada, even if Carlos Soler (83rd) made it exciting again.

But Atletico has the best cards for the title. Coach Diego Simeone’s team won 1-0 (1-0) on Saturday against relegation-threatened FC Elche, for whom Fidel Chaves scored a hand penalty on the post in stoppage time (90 + 1). Local rivals Real beat CA Osasuna 2-0 (0-0).
