The English Premier League paved the way for football fans to return. After more than a year, a limited number of home spectators are again allowed into the stadiums on the last two match days of the current season.
The prerequisite is that the lockdown restrictions are relaxed by then. Most recently, the seven-day incidence in Great Britain was around 23 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants.
If the expected easing should come, spectators can return to the arenas on May 18th. A week ago, the Premier League had already adjusted the schedule for the last game days to allow every club a home game. The last matchday will take place on May 23rd.
“The fans have been sorely missed in the Premier League. This decision marks an important step on the way to full stadiums, including away fans, for the start of the 2021/22 season,” said the league.
