Piqué and Almeida joke about Messi’s future: “The shortest way to a champion team is to become a Suárez”

The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez Almeida and Gerard Piqué, FC Barcelona player, had a fun exchange this Thursday during the presentation in Madrid of the next edition of the Davis Cup, which will be played at the end of November and the beginning of January and which will have the capital of Spain as its headquarters together with Innsbruck and Turin.

Gerard Piqué, as president of Kosmos, the organizer of the Davis Cup, and José Luis Martínez-Almeida, as mayor of Madrid, were two of the protagonists in the tennis tournament presentation by most prestigious countries in the world. After the success of the 2019 edition, the Spanish capital will host the competition again this year, together with Innsbruck and Turin.

However, tennis took a back seat for a moment in the presentation when a name came through the speakers: that of Leo Messi. It was Almeida, who mentioned the Argentine, asking if he would sign for Atlético de Madrid, a team of which he is a fan, as did his former teammate Luis Suárez.

“I congratulate the mayor for winning the League, and I think nothing more, Leo’s theme is going to be no“Piqué replied with a laugh. “Regarding Luis, you made a great signing, we already knew”he added.

In his next turn to speak, the Madrid mayor picked up the glove. “Dear Gerard, I would only tell you one thing. The shortest way to be a champion team is to become a Suárez“Almeida joked.
