Patson Daka voted Bundesliga player of the season – Patrick Pentz best goalie

The jury, consisting of presidents, managers and coaches of the Bundesliga, selected the best of the 2020/21 season in the categories of players, goalkeepers, coaches and referees.

Patson Daka came out on top in the “Best Player of the Season” category. The 22-year-old from Zambia has played 27 games for FC Red Bull Salzburg so far this season and has scored as many goals. After finishing last season in second place on the top scorer list, he is on the very best path, this year receiving the trophy as the best player as well as the top scorer in the Bundesliga. He will be honored by the Bundesliga CEO Christian Ebenbauer at the Salzburg championship celebration on Saturday.

Patrick Pentz from FK Austria Wien impressed the jury the most with the goalkeepers. The goalkeeper of FK Austria Wien has not missed a minute of the game this season and has played a large part in the fact that Vienna Austria has by far the best defensive in the qualifying group and can still expect chances for international business via the European Cup play-off. Patrick Pentz is – since the Bundesliga reform in 2018 – the first player from a club in the qualification group to receive an award. He will be honored in the run-up to the play-off semi-finals next Monday by game operations director David Reisenauer.

The victory in the coaching category goes to Salzburg coach Jesse Marsch for the second time in a row. The American is also the first coach to win the election, which has been held in this category since the 2018/19 season, twice in a row. The 47-year-old was able to win the double in the second year of his tenure and also hibernated internationally for the second time in a row. At the end of the season he switched to the German Bundesliga for RB Leipzig. He also receives his award at the championship ceremony.

Harald Lechner is also a repeat offender. The 38-year-old Viennese has won this election in the eighth season since the referee category was founded. Lechner has played in 15 Bundesliga and five 2nd division games so far this season. Internationally, he has been used in the past few months in the Europa League, World Cup qualification and the Nations League, among others.
