The Turkish top club Fenerbahce Istanbul with Mesut Özil have sacked their coach Erol Bulut. The 46-year-old’s successor until the end of the season will be sports director Emre Belözoglu (40).
Bulut had only taken over the Istanbul club last summer. The former professional (including Eintracht Frankfurt and 1860 Munich) had a contract until 2022.
After leading the table in the meantime and signing Özil from Arsenal FC, there was great euphoria at Fener. But only two of the last six league games were won, the team dropped to third without the injured playmaker Özil.
The 101-time Turkish international Emre ended his professional career at Fenerbahce in 2020. He should present a new coach for the coming season. Most recently, Joachim Löw, among others, was traded. However, the national coach ruled out taking over a club immediately after leaving the DFB-Elf after the EM in the summer.
