Top goalscorer Wout Weghorst from VfL Wolfsburg is going to the European Championship (June 11th to July 11th) with the Dutch national team. The 28-year-old is in the 26-man squad of Oranje coach Frank de Boer, which was announced on Wednesday. It was not enough for Jeremiah St. Juste from FSV Mainz 05.
The central defender, who is rumored to be on Borussia Dortmund’s wish list, had surprisingly made it into the preliminary line-up.
Liverpool’s defense chief Virgil van Dijk, who is recovering from a cruciate ligament tear in his knee, and ex-Bayern professional Arjen Robben were not appointed, as expected. The veteran, today back in the service of his home club FC Groningen, recently toured with an international comeback.
The 1988 European champions face Ukraine, Austria and newcomer North Macedonia in preliminary group C. All three games will take place in Amsterdam.
