ÖFB team with emergency team against Scotland: Austria and Turkey vie for Ercan Kara

If it remains that the German Bundesliga clubs do not release their ÖFB legionnaires for the upcoming international break, then the Austrian national team will have to do without numerous supports. But there would be opportunities for kickers in the domestic league. Among them: Rapid goal getter Ercan Kara.

On Friday team boss Franco Foda announced his selection for the World Cup qualifiers against Scotland (25.3), Faroe Islands (28.3) and Denmark (31.3.). An expanded 30-man squad is expected, as Germany legionaries are probably not allowed to travel to Scotland for the first match due to the pandemic regulations.

Foda would have – as of now – David Alaba (FC Bayern), Martin Hinteregger, Stefan Ilsanker (both Eintracht Frankfurt), Philipp Lienhart (SC Freiburg), Aleksandar Dragovic (Bayer Leverkusen), Stefan Lainer (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Christopher Trimmel (Union Berlin ), Xaver Schlager (VfL Wolfsburg), Michael Gregoritsch (Augsburg), Marcel Sabitzer (RB Leipzig), Christoph Baumgartner (Hoffenheim) and Sasa Kalajdzic (VfB Stuttgart) are not available. In addition, there is Marko Arnautovic (Shanghai SIPG), for whom the strict entry requirements in China continue to cause uncertainty.

The ÖFB would therefore have to rely on kickers in other countries and the domestic Bundesliga. Alexander Schlager, Cican Stankovic and Heinz Lindner are goalkeepers who have often been with Foda. In the past, Andreas Ulmer, Reinhold Ranftl, Gernot Trauner, Louis Schaub, Maximilian Wöber, Adrian Grbic, Raphael Holzhauser, Peter Zulj, Stefan Hierländer, Thomas Goiginger, Stefan Schwab, Christoph Monschein, Philipp Wiesinger, Husein Balic, Maximilian Ullmann also played and Albert Vallci a role in Foda.

In addition to Peter Michorl (LASK), Rapids Ercan Kara could also celebrate its debut in Scotland. The native Austrian and son of Turkish immigrants, however, is spoiled for choice. Again courier reports, Turkey is also vying for the services of the goalscorer. In the current season Kara – with 17 goals and eight assists from 32 compulsory games – apparently convinced both nations. A decision should be made by Friday.

Will Ercan Kara soon wear the ÖFB jersey?

Another Rapidler who is currently playing for Austria’s U21 national team and who is very popular with the ÖFB and the Turkish Association is Yusuf Demir. The youngster was recently associated with a top transfer, but a national team nomination seems unlikely at the moment.
