With an outing against the Faroe Islands, ÖFB team boss Franco Foda helped rapid talent Yusuf Demir to make his team debut. Afterwards, the German raved about the 17-year-old.
Demir made history with a short stint from the 85th minute against Faroe Islands: The creative player is now the youngest rapid kicker to ever play in the national team – a record previously held by Veli Kavlak.
In addition, Demir’s commitment is tied to the ÖFB for at least three more years (for an explanation, click here) – although Turkey tried to get his services. The confirmed Turkey U21 team boss Tolunay Kafkas during the week.
Nevertheless, Demir’s substitution was of a tactical nature, stressed Foda. With his way of playing, the talent should “make a difference”. Foda continues: “But of course we also wanted to show that he can be important for Austrian football in the future.”
Overall, Foda came out as a Demir fan. This would have a “great career ahead of him.” With Rapid coach Dietmar Kühbauer Demir is “in good hands”, explained Foda.
