No couch championship celebration for Manchester City: City rivals Manchester United used the slip of the designated English title holder around team manager Pep Guardiola and postponed an early crowning of the Citizens in the Premiere League at least until Tuesday. United won 3-1 (0-1) at Aston Villa.
City with national player Ilkay Gündogan had lost 1: 2 (1: 0) against Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea FC on Saturday and thus missed the first chance to make the seventh championship title in the club’s history prematurely perfect.
But despite a United catch-up game on Tuesday (19.00 / Sky) against Leicester City, the ten-point deficit on the Citizens is still enormous.
Villa had taken the lead through Bertrand Traore (24th), but the Red Devils came back with a double strike through Bruno Fernandes (52nd, penalty kick) and Mason Greenwood (56th). Edinson Cavani (87th) made the decision.
With the win, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team extended their lead in the battle for the Champions League to twelve points, at least temporarily.
