Manager Pep Guardiola regrets defender Eric Garcia’s decision to leave Manchester City this summer. “Eric Garcia is like a son to me. He was our best center-back after the lockdown last season,” said the Catalan, adding: “He never made a mistake and played in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.”
Guardiola also confirmed that Garcia “will play in Barcelona in the future. He is not an average player, but a top player”.
Despite Guardiola’s statements, the 20-year-old Spaniard has only made nine appearances this season. In the Premier League there are only 200 minutes played, most recently he was even missing from the squad twice in a row. “He wasn’t called up and it broke my heart,” said the coach. “These decisions are so difficult for coaches that outsiders cannot always imagine.”
Ruben Dias, John Stones and Aymeric Laporte are currently in Guardiola’s pecking order for central defense in front of Garcia.
