Former international Lukas Podolski no longer sees his future with Turkish first division club Antalyaspor. “As of now, I’ll be leaving in the summer after my contract expires,” the 35-year-old told the newspaper Fanatics. The Cologne native wants to continue his career.
Podolski has played 25 competitive games (three goals) for Antalya this season, but was last in the starting line-up at the end of December. At 0: 4 in Alanya last Saturday, he sat on the bench for 90 minutes.
He doesn’t know why Podolski was sidelined: “I’m overwhelmed by that. Unfortunately there is a lack of communication,” he said. Coach Ersun Yanal sees the biggest problem facing eleventh place on the offensive: “We’re having a hard time up front. We have to be callous if we have a chance.”
No wonder for Podolski: “We’re almost playing a 6-3-1 here. That’s a big change for offensive players.” Nuri Sahin’s and Sidney Sam’s team-mates could have the next opportunity to change something against Alanya in the cup semi-finals on Wednesday. “Reaching the cup final would be awesome,” said Podolski.
