After his feat against Bayern Munich, PSG continues against Saint-Etienne, not without difficulty, and approaches the leader of the championship.
PSG remains on the same dynamic. After qualifying for the semi-finals of the Champions League, the Parisians won Sunday, April 18 at home against AS Saint-Etienne (3-2) in the last seconds. A victory that allows Paris Saint-Germain to get closer to a unit of Lille in the Ligue 1 standings.
Paris was scared. After a first half without much creativity, PSG struggled to find flaws on the side of the Greens. Even if PSG largely dominated the possession of the ball in the first part (68% against 32%), Mauricio Pochettino’s men failed to materialize against Stéphanois who shook the defense of the club from the capital to several times, until the goal of Stéphanois Denis Bouanga in the 78th minutes.
This goal really changed the dimension of this match, completely crazy in the last quarter of an hour. In response to the goal scored by Bouanga, Kylian Mbappé stuck to the score the next minute (79th), like a savior. It is again he who converts a penalty (87th) to give the advantage to the Parisians. But that was without counting the tenacity of the Greens who in turn equalized thanks to Romain Hamouma (90 + 2). Fragile souls refrain, because emotions have not failed in the last minutes. So the draw was looming, Mauro Icardi finished the work started by Mbappé (90 + 5) in order to give, once and for all, the victory to the Parisians.
If the awakening of Pochettino’s men was long, it was at least effective. Five days after qualifying for the last four of the Champions League at the expense of Bayern Munich, PSG is getting closer to the leader, Lille, who conceded a draw against Montpellier (1-1), Friday, April 16. Only one point still separates the two rivals in the title race.
This victory also allows the Parisians to end a series of three straight home defeats in Ligue 1 (against Monaco, Nantes (1-2) and recently ahead of Lille). This success, however, confirms its domination against the Greens. PSG have not lost any of their last sixteen confrontations against Saint-Étienne in Ligue 1 (eleven wins, five draws).
