Kelsey Grammer Opens Up About Sister’s Murder
Los Angeles, CA – Emmy-winning actor Kelsey Grammer is opening his heart and revisiting painful memories in his new memoir, “Karen: A Brother Remembers,” a deeply personal tribute to his sister, Karen Grammer, who was brutally murdered at the age of 18.
In an emotional interview, Grammer described the process of writing the book as “difficult” and “challenging,” revealing that it took nearly three years to complete. “There were times when I would disappear down a sadness I couldn’t shake,” Grammer said, acknowledging the emotional toll the project took on him. He credited his wife for being a pillar of support throughout, saying, “She gave me the space to do it, which was extraordinary.”
Karen Grammer was abducted in 1975 behind the Red Lobster where she worked. She was later raped and murdered by Freddie Lee Glenn and his accomplices. Glenn is currently serving a life sentence and has been denied parole multiple times. Grammer recounts Karen’s final moments in harrowing detail, sharing how she tried to escape and sought help but was ultimately let down by a bystander who did nothing.

“The hope of the book is to inspire and comfort others who have lost loved ones,” Grammer said. “To search for the goodness they had with those who are gone.”
Kelsey Grammer, who has suffered multiple personal tragedies including the murders of his father and sister and the deaths of two half-brothers in a scuba diving accident, explained his resilience: “One foot in front of the other. Keep going. Quitting is not an option.”
While Grammer admits he tries to forgive his sister’s killer on a spiritual level, he remains committed to ensuring justice prevails. “To do something to myself would’ve dishonored the lives I lost. My sister wanted to live.”
Karen: A Brother Remembers is now available and offers readers not only a raw account of grief but also a message of hope, perseverance, and healing.
