RB Leipzig is looking for a successor for coach Julian Nagelsmann, who will move to Bayern in the summer. Red Bull Salzburg have now confirmed negotiations with the Bundesliga club.
The media reported unanimously on Wednesday that Jesse Marsch should be Nagelsmann’s successor in Leipzig. Marsch himself never made a secret of his desire to move to the larger sister club: “Of course I understand this club very well, of course Leipzig is a top idea. If I can have the opportunity as a coach in Leipzig, then it’s a great idea to me.”
This idea could now become a reality. Because Red Bull Salzburg has now confirmed talks with Leipzig about a potential move from march to Saxony. “Yes, we are currently holding talks with RB Leipzig. We cannot say more at the moment because we are still in talks. If talks have not yet been concluded or there is no agreement, you cannot announce anything,” says sports director Christoph Friend too Sky.
Negotiations between Salzburg and Leipzig have been successful in the past – this is proven by transfers such as Naby Keita, Dominik Szoboszlai, Amadou Haidara, Dayot Upamecano, Hannes Wolf, Hwang Hee-chan or Konrad Laimer
Freund did not want to get involved in discussions about successors. For example, the name Oliver Glasner would not be on his call history for the last 24 hours. An internal replacement would also be possible: “There are very, very good coaches who are currently employed by Red Bull Salzburg. There are many good coaches. But as I said: I don’t want to be part of any speculation.”
