Inter Milan coach Antonio Conte: “An empire has collapsed”

After a 2-0 win at the bottom of the league FC Crotone, Inter Milan are looking forward to their first Italian Serie A title since 2010. If pursuers Atalanta Bergamo do not win in Sassuolo on Sunday (3 p.m.), Inter will no longer be able to take the 19th scudetto in the club’s history four game days before the end. Most recently, record champion Juventus Turin won the championship nine times in a row.

“An empire has collapsed after nine years,” stressed Inter coach Antonio Conte after the game and has no doubts that the Nerazzurri will win the title. “Our championship is the result of constant growth in every respect. We live every game intensely with a willingness to make sacrifices and with concentration. Congratulations to the boys,” said the southern Italian.

He continued: “To go down in history, you have to win. Otherwise you remain one of many.” In the event of the title win, the football coach emphasized: “I owe that to a group of guys who got on the boat and started rowing together. They share the dream of achieving something great,” commented Conte, who has been at Inter since 2019 trained.

As coach of Juventus Turin, Conte won three championship titles between 2011 and 2014. The 51-year-old also gave an insight into his emotional world. He remains a fan of all the clubs “that I’ve coached, but above all I’m a fan of the team I’m currently coaching”.

It was not easy “to win the hearts of the Inter fans. I understand them very well. I can say that I gave everything for all the teams that I have coached”. He committed himself in a “very special way, knowing that we had to achieve something extraordinary”.
