Independent Women’s Football Club Wins Championship
LONDON, UK — A historic moment in women’s football unfolded as the newly promoted team, owned by American businesswoman Michelle Kang, celebrated their Championship victory and secured promotion to the Women’s Super League (WSL).
The team lifted the trophy over the weekend, joined on the podium by Kang herself, who owns several women’s football teams globally, including the prestigious Olympique Lyonnais Féminin—eight-time UEFA Women’s Champions League winners.
Kang shared her strategic vision during post-match celebrations, emphasizing that the team was intentionally built to compete at a mid-tier WSL level right from their first day in the top flight.

“We’ve been building the team to be at least mid-tier WSL from day one,” Kang said. “We’ve seen many clubs come up and go back down. So we’ve been very deliberate in our approach.”
Her remarks also addressed the unique challenges the club faced as an independent women’s team—unaffiliated with a men’s club, unlike many others in the league.
“When I first arrived, people warned me that without a men’s team to lean on for branding and fan base, it would be incredibly difficult,” Kang explained. “But to accomplish this in just one year proves that with the right investment and resources, anything is possible.”
The club’s success marks a milestone not only for Kang’s ownership but for the broader development of independent women’s teams striving to compete at the highest level without relying on established male counterparts.
With promotion secured, the football world will now watch closely as Kang’s team enters the WSL with ambition, vision, and a powerful message about equity and opportunity in the sport.
