Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic are at odds over the record champions’ squad planning. The coach shouldn’t feel involved enough, the sports director shouldn’t like the fact that his approaches play little. Is that why the coach even toying with the job of national coach? Either way, the record champions are facing a mega-upheaval in the summer. Currently only eleven positions in the squad are really fixed. SPOX and goal give an overview of the squad planning at FC Bayern Munich.
FC Bayern Munich is still on course for the ninth Bundesliga championship in a row, and thanks to their own 3-1 at Werder Bremen and RB Leipzig’s draw against Eintracht Frankfurt, they were able to expand their lead over RB to four points on matchday 25. In the Champions League, progress before the second leg of the second leg against Lazio Rome on Wednesday (9 p.m. in the live ticker) after the 4: 1 in the first leg seems to be quite certain.
And yet there is again a lot of unrest around Bavaria. Since the announced withdrawal of national coach Joachim Löw after the European Championship finals planned in June and July, Bavaria’s all-winner coach Hansi Flick has been the favorite to succeed his former boss. Especially since Flick, in contrast to Liverpool’s Jürgen Klopp, verbally avoided a clear no to the DFB both before and after the 3-1 at Werder Bremen.
The differences between him and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic, admitted by Flick, are particularly evident in the record champions’ squad planning. Are they so big that they could persuade Flick to ask FC Bayern for approval for the DFB?
Either way, the record champions are facing a mega-upheaval in the summer. Currently, only eleven professionals should have a safe place in the squad for the coming season.
Fix: These players will also be with Bayern in 2021/2022:
Only the arrival of Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig and the departure of David Alaba are fixed so far. The commitment of full-back Omar Richards (23) from the English second division FC Reading is considered secure, but has not yet been announced. The alleged interest in Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez, 26, is currently nothing more than a rumor.
