Borussia Dortmund’s goal scorer Erling Haaland and his colleagues in the Norwegian national soccer team want to set an example in the debate about the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
According to coach Stale Solbakken, the Scandinavians are planning a solidarity campaign with the exploited workers on Qatar’s World Cup construction sites before their World Cup qualifier against Gibraltar in Marbella. Solbakken did not give any details, but according to him, the world association FIFA in particular is the addressee of the message.
In Haaland’s homeland, a broad debate has been going on for over a month about a boycott of the World Cup due to the inadequate respect for human rights in Qatar. The national association wants to decide on the question at an extraordinary general assembly on June 20th.
