PSV Eindhoven secured participation in the Champions League qualification with Mario Götze. A 1-1 (0: 1) at FC Utrecht on the last matchday was enough for Eindhoven to secure second place behind champions Ajax Amsterdam. Götze prepared the equalizer through Marco van Ginkel (49th).
The team of coach Roger Schmidt thus claimed one point ahead of AZ Alkmaar (5-0 against Heracles Almelo). It is still unclear whether Götze will actually play with PSV in the premier class.
Most recently, the 2014 world champion flirted with an early farewell before the end of the contract in 2022. “We have agreed with PSV that we will sit down on an exceptional offer,” said Götze in the 11friends-Interview.
In addition, the Dutch media reported unanimously of an exit clause for which Götze EIndhoven was allowed to leave for the top 5 leagues after just one season. In addition to Götze, national player Philipp Max was also in the starting line-up at PSV.
