Lee Roche debuted with him Manchester United in 2003. He rubbed shoulders with Blanc, Giggs, Ricardo, O’Shea, Fletcher, Butt, Forlán… He fulfilled a dream that 18 years later has remained in a beautiful memory. He currently runs a plumbing and interior waterproofing company. Of course, as recognized in Planet Football, “I do not regret anything”.
He confesses that, in his current job, more than one recognizes him from his time as a footballer, but that it is not something he is going to brag about either. “I’ve had some co-workers on the construction site asking me about United and how I got here.”, recognize. “I’m not going to shout from the rooftops that I played for United”.
He retired at the age of 27 and now he remembers that perhaps he should have raised his voice in more than one moment throughout his career and integrated something more with his peers. “The only thing I would like to point out is that at United he was known to be very quiet, maybe I should have been more assertive and mixed with the guys more. I was going straight home after training to hang out with my own group of friends, ”recalls Roche. Now I look back at teammates like John [O’Shea] and Darren Fletcher and I think I should have been more like them. To have gone out and socialized. I think I would have done better with United”.
In one way or another, football did not end up being his future and now he has no problem recognizing it, while warning young people that they must be prepared for what comes with sport. “Young players today should train to know what the real world is about. Most of them probably don’t have a plan to fall back on if things don’t turn out. “.
