Friedhelm Funkel can imagine staying with 1. FC Köln in an advisory capacity after the end of his coaching job at the end of the season. Funkel explained that to the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger.
“If that should be wanted at some point, then I wouldn’t ignore it,” said Funkel. “It is important to have people on the committees who have a background in football.”
After the successes over RB Leipzig (2: 1) and at FC Augsburg (3: 2), Funkel is confident of staying up. His team is currently in relegation position 16 after 31 match days. “The two victories now have done something to the team,” said Funkel. Two more wins in the last three match days “may be enough, but that is not certain”.
Meanwhile, according to media information, the club’s management is increasingly trying to find Funkel’s successor. As the picture reports, sports director Horst Held meets with Peter Stöger in Vienna on the weekend. The Austrian had coached FC from 2013 to 2017, led them into the Bundesliga and the European Cup.
