Next disturbance at Bundesliga bottom FC Schalke 04: A tweet, which was allegedly posted by the mother of striker Matthew Hoppe, causes a stir via social media. In it, she fueled speculation about a summer transfer of the young attacker.
What happened? From the account “@ AnnaHoppe8” was on a post of Sports-Illustrated– Journalist Grant Wahl has responded. Wahl had written that, according to his information, the top Eredivisie clubs Ajax and PSV had entered the race for Hoppe and that several top clubs from England and Germany were also interested.
Said “AnnaHoppe8” replied: “Maybe he’ll get the ball there more often. I’m pretty sure that a lot of clubs are chasing him.” Statements that were not well received by Schalke fans online. A few hours after the tweet it was no longer available and the “@ AnnaHoppe8” account was deleted.
The alleged Hoppe mother’s account was not verified. However, not so long ago her tweets were also retweeted from the account of Hoppe’s consultancy agency Bond MB. This suggests that it was not a fake profile.
Matthew Hoppe is one of the few bright spots of the disastrous Schalke season. The 20-year-old scored five goals in 15 Bundesliga games and only a few weeks ago extended his contract with the Royal Blues until 2023.
Hoppe came to FC Schalke from the Barca Academy
At Sport1 he made it clear four weeks ago that he wanted to remain loyal to S04 even in the likely event of relegation: “Schalke gave me a chance and bet on me. (…) I will stay with Schalke – regardless of the league.”
There are still speculations about a change in the summer. In addition to Ajax and PSV, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Norwich City should also consider signing Hoppe. Transfermarkt.us also reports on a gentlemen’s agreement between the attacker and Schalke’s responsible person: According to this, the right foot should go in the summer despite his contract extension if an interested club should pay an “adequate fee”.
Hoppe made a free transfer from the Barca Academy in the USA to the Knappen U19 in 2019. He has been part of the professional squad since the second half of the current season.
