Ozan Kabak joined Liverpool on loan on loan over the winter. The Reds have a purchase option for the central defender of FC Schalke 04. Whether this will be drawn, however, seems completely open at this point in time.
Like the sports portal The Athletic reports, a decision has not yet been made by the reigning English champions. A payment of 20 million euros would be due to tie the nine-time Turkish national player permanently to the club.
The Royal Blues had actually planned this money after the inevitable relegation to the second division in order to be able to put together a powerful team in the fight for direct promotion. It can at least be doubted whether there will be an interested party in the event of a return to Schalke who will put an amount of a similar amount on the table for the 21-year-old.
After his loan to Anfield Road, Kabak has played seven games for the Reds so far, he was fit, he was always on the field for over 90 minutes and at least performed well. Due to the injuries of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, team manager Jürgen Klopp’s options on the defensive are extremely limited.
“You get a 20-year-old and you expect him to solve the problem within a second. You don’t give him any time. Ozan played very well from the start,” said Klopp, dampening expectations. “Has he reached his maximum performance? Maybe not. But that’s not even possible yet. When you try to adapt and integrate, you are understandably not always with yourself.”
