Dimitrios Grammozis and Steffen Baumgart are apparently the top candidates to succeed Christian Gross as Schalke coach. This, however, wants to continue his career even after his Schalke commitment. All news and rumors about FC Schalke 04 can be found here.

After yesterday’s earthquake and the associated dismissal of Christian Gross, FC Schalke 04 is once again looking for a new coach. Again kicker reports, someone from his own company could take over the position of head coach with Mike Büskens, but the 52-year-old should hold the office until next summer at the latest and then make room for a long-term solution.
In addition to Dimitrios Grammozis, who was discussed last year, Paderborn’s Steffen Baumgart is also apparently one of the candidates. His contract with SCP expires at the end of the season, and his emotional and direct nature would suit a club like Schalke perfectly.
Grammozis, who last coached the second division SV Darmstadt 98 and previously worked in the youth department of VfL Bochum, should, however, be available for selection due to his experience with young players. Since the Royal Blues are about to relegate to the second division and an accompanying restructuring of the squad seems inevitable, Schalke will in any case have to rely on young talents in the future.
Schalke: Baumgart and Grammozis are probably top candidates for major successors
Christian Gross wants to continue his coaching career despite his short-term debacle at Bundesliga club Schalke 04. “It wouldn’t be a happy ending for my career,” the 66-year-old told the Swiss daily Look after his release from Schalke on Sunday. But first he had to digest the greatest disappointment of his career.
With reference to the Gelsenkirchen team, the Swiss said that he “still has the feeling that the team is developing. That we were on the right track in terms of sport and that we are making progress.” He is also “still convinced that Schalke can still prevent relegation”.
The Royal Blues had reacted to the 1: 5 at VfB Stuttgart on Sunday and, in addition to Gross, also released sports director Jochen Schneider, licensed player boss Sascha Riether, assistant trainer Rainer Widmayer and athletics trainer Werner Leuthard from their duties. Before the game there should have been a player revolt against Gross when the bottom of the table was beaten.
