Xavi will not be the coach of FC Barcelona for the new season and instead wants to extend his contract with Al Sadd.
Xavi will not be the new coach of FC Barcelona in the coming season. The former Barca star relegated the rumors that he was to inherit Ronald Koeman on the sidelines in the summer to the realm of fables.
“I am in the process of renewing my contract with Al Sadd. My departure from the team is just a rumor and I am very happy to continue working with these players and this club,” said the 41-year-old at a press conference.
Xavi’s contract with Al Sadd ends on June 30, but now the contract is apparently to be extended similarly to last year. Even then, Xavi was considered a possible successor to Quique Setien.
During his playing days, Xavi played over 500 competitive games for FC Barcelona and won the Champions League four times with the club in addition to eight Spanish championships.
