FC Barcelona and the former Dortmund Ousmane Dembele can apparently not agree on an extension of the contract, which runs until 2022. As the Sports reports, Juventus Turin is said to have put out feelers to Dembele.
The environment of the offensive player has therefore already held talks regarding a move to the Italian series champion in the coming year. After his contract expires, Dembele would be free of charge and thus a possible bargain for the old lady.
After moving from BVB to Barcelona in 2017, Dembele was for years the biggest transfer flop in the recent club history of the Catalans. Barca put well over 100 million euros on the table for the highly talented, but sometimes unprofessional dribbler. Countless serious muscle injuries hampered Dembele’s development before he was able to really show off for the first time this season under Ronald Koeman.
In 38 competitive games he was involved in 14 goals in the current season. Barcelona want to reward this improvement in performance with a contract extension, but the negotiations are evidently difficult. Should no agreement be reached, the highly indebted Barca are aiming to sell the Frenchman in the summer, according to media reports.
Koeman recently emphasized that Dembele was an “important player” for the club. He is able to “play one on one, with dribbles, with shots with both feet. He is very important because he has given us a lot of different things this season.”
