Big setback in the title fight: FC Barcelona missed the leap to the top of the Spanish league. Despite a goal from Lionel Messi and playful dominance, the team of coach Ronald Koeman lost to Granada CF at their home camp Nou with 1: 2 (1: 0).
After a nice combination with Antoine Griezmann, Messi put Barca on the winning road early (23rd), but the Catalans, who dominated the game for long periods, missed the second goal.
That should take revenge: Granada turned the game around thanks to goals from Darwin Machis (63rd) and Jorge Molina (79th). It was the only chance the guests had. The German national goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen remained powerless with both goals.
To make matters worse, Barca coach Koeman was sent off with red after the Machis goal for complaining and had to watch the rest of the match from the stands. On the upcoming matchday against Valencia CF, the Dutchman will most likely also have to watch from the stands.
It was a missed opportunity for Barca to climb to the top of the table. With five game days to go, the Spanish cup winner still has every chance of winning the championship. On the day after next (May 8th) there will be a blast against leaders Atletico Madrid.
