Euro 2021 and Champions League: UEFA tilts 30 percent audience limit

At the European Football Championship and in the hot phase of the Champions League, there could theoretically be full stadiums. As announced by UEFA on Wednesday after the meeting of its executive committee, the upper limit of 30 percent stadium utilization, which was introduced on October 1, will be lifted with immediate effect.

For such a rigid benchmark, the situation in the 55 member associations is too different, the Exko justified the step. The decision on the number of admitted viewers should in future be made solely by the responsible local and national authorities for European games.

If the relevant national offices allow it, full ranks could be played again. Guest fans, however, are still banned. In view of the tense corona situation in most countries, however, it seems more than questionable whether many countries will make use of the relaxation of the guidelines in the near future.

So far there have mainly been partial openings for viewers in Eastern Europe and a few pilot projects in the West.
