EU: No legal action against Super League

According to the EU Commission Vice President Margaritis Schinas, the European Union has no legal means to take action against the planned Super League in football. “Look, this is not the responsibility of the Commission,” said the Greek in an interview with Il Messaggero when asked what the commission could do to block the twelve top clubs project.

“For years Europe has recognized the right of football associations and UEFA to make independent decisions,” said Schinas: “They have to find solutions to this problem.”

After the plans for the Super League became known, Schinas had criticized Real Madrid, Liverpool and Co. for their approach. “We have to defend a value-oriented European sports model based on diversity and inclusivity,” he tweeted.
