Mario Balotelli shot his club AC Monza to victory in Italy’s Serie B with a brace at Salernitana. The former national player of the Squadra Azzurra scored the last two goals for his team at 3-1 (0-0).
Balotelli was only substituted in in the 80th minute in the chase duel, but 60 seconds later he scored the much-acclaimed 2-1 for the guests. In stoppage time he also made it 3-1 (90th + 1).
But once again Balotelli did not go completely without controversy: After his first goal, he messed with the opposing bench and saw the yellow card for it. Balotelli is said to have made derogatory remarks about a Salernitana player before coming on and asked his teammate Dany Mota to exploit his opponent’s alleged weaknesses.
With the away win, Monza, fourth in the table, caught up to two points on Salernitana. A direct promotion position is only three points away for the Balotelli team with three game days to go. Even if Monza no longer achieves this, the team can still make promotion to Serie A via the play-offs.
