The upcoming two games of second division Holstein Kiel have been officially postponed. As the DFL announced on Monday, the games of the quarantined promotion aspirant against Hannover 96 (originally April 14) and at 1. FC Nürnberg (April 17) cannot take place as planned.
The storks’ home game against Jahn Regensburg, which was planned for last Saturday, had to be postponed. According to its announcement, by the end of the week, the DFL wants to “decide on the cancellation of the games Hamburger SV against Karlsruher SC and Holstein Kiel against SV Sandhausen on matchday 30” “taking into account the current status”.
It is “probably a unique situation that a professional team was taken out of training within a month and a half for four weeks, while the competition was able to use these six weeks completely,” said coach Ole Werner about the situation.
The license teams from Karlsruhe and Sandhausen also recently had to go into quarantine at home due to corresponding orders from the responsible health authorities due to COVID-19 cases.
The deadline pressure is particularly high at Kiel. The storks now have to make up for three league games after April 20 and also complete their semi-finals in the DFB Cup at Borussia Dortmund on May 1. The last matchday is scheduled for May 23rd, the relegation games to the Bundesliga are scheduled for May 26th and 29th.
