President Dirk Zingler of Union Berlin has spoken out in favor of separating the DFB from national coach Joachim Löw and sports director Oliver Bierhoff before the upcoming European Championship.
“I think it takes a complete new start in terms of personnel in order to be able to initiate real changes,” said Zingler picture. “That’s why I belong to the large group of football fans in Germany who would think it would be right if Oliver Bierhoff and Jogi Löw made this new start possible before the European Championship.”
The German national team lost 6-0 to Spain last autumn and recently suffered an embarrassing 2-1 defeat at home against North Macedonia. Zingler complained: “From my point of view it is a catastrophic, embarrassing picture. The DFB is hopelessly divided at the top and therefore without leadership. In this way more problems arise than are solved. What we are currently experiencing with the national team is exemplary. “
Löw’s farewell after the tournament has already been decided. Bierhoff is to remain with the association and plays a decisive role in the search for a successor for Löw. Potential candidates include the current FC Bayern coach Hansi Flick and U21 national coach Stefan Kuntz.
