The England legionaries around Ilkay Gündogan and Timo Werner remain in the so-called “work quarantine” even after the classification of the United Kingdom as a virus variant area with the German national team. This was confirmed by the German Football Association (DFB) after consultation with the authorities at the meeting point in Düsseldorf on Monday.
Gündogan, Werner, Kai Havertz, Antonio Rüdiger and Bernd Leno have to isolate themselves again internally within the already existing “bubble”. Contact with fellow players is only intended during training, meetings and games. Meals are taken separately.
But national coach Joachim Löw is happy “that we can fall back on our players from the Premier League”. The DFB team will start qualifying for the Winter World Cup 2022 in Qatar on Thursday (8.45 p.m.) in Duisburg against Iceland. This is followed by the games in Romania (March 28th) and against North Macedonia (31st / in Duisburg).
