DFB team doctor Tim Meyer considers a return of spectators at the beginning of the upcoming Bundesliga season to be realistic. “Certainly not 100 percent straight away, but we hope that ghost games will no longer be necessary if we assume that the infectious prognoses are correct,” said the head of the “Sports Medicine / Special Game Operations” task force World on sunday.
A touch of normalcy would also return around the games of the season starting on August 13th. “I hope and believe that the protective measures can be significantly disarmed in the next season,” said Meyer.
In addition to a falling incidence, the basis is a high vaccination rate. “Because I hope – of course and explicitly: only as soon as it is the turn of football players – that they will have a high vaccination rate, which is still well above the vaccination rate for the general population. But that is my personal assessment,” said the doctor.
The quarantine for all Bundesliga clubs, which begins on Wednesday, is still useful to prevent further game cancellations. “If there are no external contacts, nothing can be brought into the shielded area with the team, coaches and supervisors,” said Meyer.
