The captain’s armband, angrily thrown away by Portugal’s superstar Cristiano Ronaldo (36), was auctioned on Tuesday for a charity on the auction website limundo.com.
The 3,000 euros are intended to benefit the treatment of a sick baby suffering from spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), which occurs rarely.
Ronaldo threw away the armband on Saturday after the Juventus attacker was denied a goal in stoppage time in qualifying for the 2-2 (2-0) in Serbia. CR7 had maneuvered the ball over the goal line so that it was clearly visible to the TV viewers.
But referee Danny Makkelie (Netherlands) did not give the goal – neither VAR nor goal-line technology were available to him. A steward picked up the armband and contacted a regional sports channel with the idea of auctioning it off for charity.
