Le petit poucet Rumilly-Vallières will find AS Monaco while PSG will face Montpellier in the semi-final of the Coupe de France.
The draw for the semi-finals of the Coupe de France returned its verdict this Sunday, April 25. Le petit poucet Rumilly-Vallières, a National 2 club, will host AS Monaco while PSG will face Montpellier in a 100% Ligue 1 poster. The semi-finals will take place on May 11 and 12.
Rumilly-Vallières, small thumb of the competition (N2), had so far been somewhat spared on his way to the last four. The Savoyards had only faced amateurs before returning to Toulouse (Ligue 2) in the quarter-finals, which they brilliantly released (2-0). They will now find AS Monaco, candidate for the title in Ligue 1. The Principality’s club saw the exit door very closely in the round of 16 against Metz. The Monegasques had to wait for the penalty shootout to win their ticket for the quarterfinals where they won the clash against OL (2-0).
“It’s a prestigious poster with great players, a great coach. We will multiply the training sessions and the oppositions, we will be ready for the big day”, reacted Fatsah Amghar, the coach of Rumilly-Vallières in the program Stade 2 on France 3. The technician also specified that the meeting should take place in Annecy.
In the other semi-final, the level will rise for Montpellier which has so far not experienced great adversity. With Alès, the Voltigeurs de Châteaubriant and Canet-en-Roussillon, the Héraultais have not come across better than National 2 clubs to reach the semi-finals. Conversely, the Parisians are currently flying over the competition, despite three confrontations against elite clubs. The players of the capital have chained very easy victories against Brest (3-0), Lille (3-0) and Angers (5-0), without conceding a single goal.
