Julian Nagelsmann fulfills his dream and moves to FC Bayern Munich. Sports director Markus Krösche has already left, like Nagelsmann, he too was in the club for two years. RB Leipzig is facing a change in two of the most important positions in the club – and thus also in the collective.
Nagelsmann has promised not to take any more players from Leipzig to Bayern. But with Dayot Upamecano, one of the pillars of RB will be abandoned in the direction of its biggest competitor, which has been known for a long time. Other service providers could follow, especially after Nagelsmann’s farewell was announced.
Because the coach was definitely a bonus for Leipzig when it came to keeping players and getting new players. The new coach Jesse Marsch, who comes from the sister club Red Bull Salzburg, first has to work out this status at the Bundesliga location.
SPOX and goal illuminate the upheaval in Leipzig on three levels.
On Thursday, Jesse Marsch signed a two-year contract with RB Leipzig. The Bundesliga club decided on the most logical solution. After all, the 47-year-old knows the Red Bull cosmos very well: he coached New York Red Bulls in MLS for three and a half years, and in the 2018/19 season Marsch was Ralf Rangnick’s assistant coach in Leipzig. And then he really made a name for himself in Salzburg over the past two years.
RB Leipzig – Trainer: Nagelsmann follows Kosmos-Kenner March
Of course, his work also made him interesting for Leipzig. He has proven that he can convey the game required at RB full of intensity, dynamism, attractiveness and penetration power even at the highest level to a team. In 2019/20 March with Salzburg in a complicated Champions League group with Napoli and Liverpool had a chance of making it to the last sixteen, the Austrians thrilled, among other things, with a spectacular appearance at 3: 4 at Liverpool’s Anfield Road. In addition, he led the team last season to the double of championship and cup, the title defense in the league is almost certain.
Marsch proved in Salzburg that he is capable of something that also distinguishes Nagelsmann. Bayern star Robert Lewandowski said about the upcoming FCB coach Sports picture: “He always manages to raise teams to a level that one does not trust them. The performance of the teams at Nagelsmann is mostly above expectations, above the sum of the quality of the individual players.” Marsch did exactly that in Salzburg.
Whether he will succeed in this one step higher, in Leipzig, of course, cannot be reliably predicted beforehand. Marsch cannot deny that Nagelsmann is currently a bit ahead of any trainer in the world when it comes to tactical flexibility and how it is conveyed. But march is a choice with a perspective.
As a player, Marsch was always active in the USA. He played 321 times in the MLS for DC United, Chicago Fire and Chivas USA and was a strong midfielder. In this role, he once caused an uproar with a nasty kick against David Beckham when the English world star kicked at LA Galaxy.
