Champions League: the four PSG – Bayern Munich who made history

PSG return to Bayern Munich on April 7 for the first leg. If the last confrontation dates from the final of the Champions League last year, this is not the only scoring duel between the two clubs.

This is a great first for the club in the capital. Paris Saint Germain, victorious in the French championship last year, won its ticket for this C1, already known but only once and when it was still called the Champions Clubs Cup. As a welcome gift, he faces Bayern Munich, the big favorite of this group. The club have already won this competition three times, and have stars like goalkeeper Oliver Kahn, Lothar Matthaüs, and are coached by the immense Giovanni Trapattoni.

Thanks to its attack duo George Weah – David Ginola, Paris shines. On a corner from Daniel Bravo, George Weah opened the scoring just before half-time (41st). The former Niçois will also be the author of the second goal, on a half volley at the back of the net. The entry is successful in European competition. Something to satisfy the coach at the time, Luis Fernandez: “I have just had a great time and I thank my players for it. They delivered the match I expected from them, with tremendous qualities of heart, courage, lucidity and also technical mastery.”

That evening of October 1997, Paris sank … 5-1. The result of a sad European evening for Parisians. Dominators in the league, the Parisians will live a nightmare during this third day of group stages of the Champions League. For Christophe Revault, goalkeeper at the time, it was an ordeal.

At 25, he is one of the hopes for this post. A dream match awaits him in the legendary Olympic stadium in Munich. But it was picked cold from the start by Giovane Elber (4th). The goalkeeper then made two big mistakes, giving Bayern Munich two goals. In total, he conceded five goals. Marco Simone will save the honor of the Parisians (31st). After a bitter defeat and big faults, Revault will lose his place in the cages and will leave the club, a few months later.

This is the first big game for the two PSG superstars. Arrived in the summer of 2017, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé struck hard that evening. Great era of the MCN (Mbappé, Cavani, Neymar) in attack, Paris Saint Germain humiliated the European giant, Bayern, by winning 3-0 during the group stage of the Champions League.

It’s a gala match, a real spectacle which the spectators of the Parc des Princes attended. From the 2nd minute, the Parisians set the tone for this meeting thanks to Dani Alves, on a decisive pass from Neymar. A “Ney”, who just flew over this match between a decisive pass and the ball in the back of the net (63rd). The trio Mbappé, Cavani, Neymar in perfect harmony, once again made the Park tremble in the 31st minute. Served by international Kylian Mbappé, Cavani widens the gap. Before completely knocking out Bayern, on another decisive pass to the Brazilian (3-0).
