Borussia Dortmund shows no interest in joining the new European Super League of football and is betting on a reformed Champions League. “The members of the board of the European Club Association (ECA) got together on Sunday evening for a virtual conference and confirmed that the board decision of last Friday is still valid”, said the chairman of the board Hans-Joachim Watzke on Monday in a Statement on the BVB website.
This decision states “that the clubs want to implement the planned reform of the Champions League. It was the clear opinion of the members of the ECA board that the plans to establish a Super League are rejected”. Watzke emphasized that this also applies to the German record champions Bayern Munich. Both big clubs had “represented 100 percent congruent views in all discussions”. FC Bayern has not yet expressed itself.
Twelve big names in international football, including all of the English giants, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, have announced the establishment of a Super League that is independent of UEFA.

After there has been speculation about the departure of BVB striker Erling Haaland in recent weeks, Real Madrid currently seems to be the top prospect of the race for the Norwegian – at least for the time being. Instead, signing another top striker has priority for Los Blancos.
Like the Spanish newspaper AS reported that Real Madrid are prioritizing signing PSG star Kylian Mbappe. Paris Saint-Germain is currently fighting for a new contract with Mbappe, whose contract would expire in 2022. His performances in the Champions League quarter-finals against Bayern Munich had once again proven why the best clubs in the world want to secure his skills.
An early Haaland transfer is therefore excluded. How SPOX and goal learned, an English club tried to sign Haaland a few months ago, but then threw in the towel because his advisor called for an astronomical salary for the striker: 35 million euros net annually.
A commitment from Erling Haaland this year will probably not come about for Real, because BVB sports director Michael Zorc clearly spoke out in favor of Haaland staying and an alleged exit clause should only take effect in 2022. “The fact is: nothing works without our signature. We plan with him, regardless of whether we qualify for the Champions League or not,” said Zorc last.
