Former national player Lars Bender (32) from Bundesliga soccer club Bayer Leverkusen will end his career without another appearance. “I will definitely not play anymore,” said the currently injured Werkself captain from the trade magazine kicker quoted: “This is not the farewell one imagines.”
Lars Bender had an operation on the external meniscus in February and hoped for a comeback until the end. “The knee didn’t develop the way you wanted it to,” said the 19-time international.
Bender has been under contract with Leverkusen since 2009 and has made 405 competitive games. One of his greatest successes was winning the Olympic silver medal in 2016.
His twin brother and teammate Sven will also end his career with the game on May 22nd at Borussia Dortmund (3:30 p.m. / Sky).
